Located in the northwestern corner of the Green Mountain State, Saint Albans truly embodies all of the best things about life in Vermont. Exploring is made easy from this city, with Burlington, Lake Champlain, Plattsburgh, and Montreal within a short driving distance.
Saint Albans is also home to the Passport Agency office on Stebbins and Main, one of only five places in the country with same-day passport processing! If traveling is your thing, you’ll also be happy to know that an Amtrak Train Station is located at the center of town and can connect you to various destinations across the country! Another fun fact about St. Albans is that the town and the city are separate and form what looks like a donut with the city at its center, and the town surrounds it with beautiful farmland and rolling green hills.
Whether you’re coming for the passport office, the train station, just passing through or moving to the area, you’ll find so much to love in the bustling city center of Saint Albans. Specialty shops, award-winning restaurants, breweries like 14th Star Brewing Co, Vermont’s largest downtown greenspace, historic buildings, and a number of community events are just a few of the things that make this area special. Some of our favorite spots include Red House Sweets for their mouth-watering maple cinnamon buns and La Casa Bar & Grill for delicious tacos. The city also hosts annual events like the Vermont Maple Festival and Summer concerts in Taylor Park. Both of which are community favorites!
With close proximity to Lake Champlain, boating, swimming, fishing, skating, or just exploring the islands are all options! If trails are more your speed, heading to Aldis Hill Park for a 1.6-mile loop through the woods is perfect for all skill levels and is kid-friendly, too! Want to check out a bike trail? Peddle over to Hard’Ack to tackle some beautiful trails and scenic views, or hit the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail (MVRT), which rolls on for 26.3-miles through northwestern Vermont past lush green farmland and at some points runs right along the border of Quebec. What about camping? Burton Island State Park is just a short boat ride from the shore of Kill Kare State Park and is an excellent option for quiet and scenic camping adventures. Still not sure what to do in the area? Check out the City’s Guide for more ideas!
