St. Johnsbury is a rural town in Caledonia County whose motto is “Very Vermont.” It has the largest population of any town in the Northeast Kingdom, with 7,364 residents according to the 2020 Census. Neighboring towns to St. Johnsbury include Danville and Lyndon, and the town is conveniently located 1.5 hours to Burlington, 2.5 hours to Montreal, and just over 2.5 hours to Boston. Make trips out of town easy with bus routes to Lyndonville and Montpelier.

 

Students here attend the St. Johnsbury School from preschool to eighth grade. The elementary and middle school boasts a student-teacher ratio of 13 to 1, 55 full-time teachers, and three full-time school counselors. Once they graduate from eighth grade, students have school choice: they can apply to St. Johnsbury Academy, a private school where tuition is covered for St. Johnsbury residents who are accepted, or Danville High School. St. Johnsbury Academy is highlighted as the #1 school for athletes in Vermont and has a 100% graduation rate. It also has 907 students, an A Niche Grade, and a student-teacher ratio of 8 to 1. Danville High School similarly has a student-teacher ratio of 8 to 1, with 350 students across grades, preschool through twelfth.
