North to South Vermont Fall Wine Tour

Fall is the perfect time to explore Vermont’s unique and delicious selection of wines and spirits. This wine tour starts in South Hero, one of the Champlain Islands most treasured spots. Traveling east to Cambridge, take in views of Mt. Mansfield as you drive along Vermont Route 104, then south into the rolling farmland of Shelburne and Addison County. Vermont’s wineries are worth taking a full day to explore and indulge in!
Snow Farm Vineyard, South Hero

Start your day in beautiful South Hero, one of the most picturesque Champlain Islands. Situated on a small hilltop overlooking Lake Champlain, take time to stroll around the 200-year old farmland and picnic in the yard. The unique island environment of South Hero is conducive to growing vinifera grapes, which produce incredible Pinot Noir and Riesling. Wines can be enjoyed by the flight, bottle, or glass in the tasting room or on the 1,200 square foot patio overlooking the pastoral surroundings. Snow Farm is always releasing new wines, which are best previewed at the winery itself.
Boyden Valley Winery & Spirits, Cambridge

Make your way east to a true Vermont destination. Boyden Valley uses the best VT ingredients, all made in-house or sourced locally from orchards and maple syrup makers. Indulge in the great selection of Cream Liqueurs with unique Vermont flavors like Maple and Apple Cinnamon, along with a cool-weather favorite, a spiced winter wine called the “Glogg.” Sit outside and enjoy your drink on the patio, or cozy up in the exposed-wood tasting room and learn all about the process that makes these beverages so great. Can’t decide which one of these amazing beverages you want to take home? Grab a pack of Mini Bottles - perfect for sampling or gifts around the holidays.
Shelburne Vineyard, Shelburne

Shelburne Vineyard has been making incredible wines since 1998, which can all be enjoyed in the wine cellar, on the lawn, or watching one of their many concerts. These concerts run through the end of October (you might need a sweatshirt!) and feature a variety of local artists and food trucks to indulge in. And if you fall in love with their wine, join the Wine Club to receive a bottle every quarter and free wine tastings whenever you visit the vineyard, along with other great benefits! Be sure to check out this lovely spot just south of Burlington.
Charlotte Village Winery, Charlotte

The Charlotte Village winery has its roots not in wine, but in blueberry picking! Founded in 2001, this beautiful vineyard is home to some of the best blueberry bushes in the state, and therefore some of the best blueberry wine. Not a fan of blueberry wine? No problem! They have a full range of classic wines like Merlot, Pinot Grigio, and Chardonnay along with house favorites like “Le Crescent” and “Buddy’s Apple Crisp.” Enjoy all these wines while looking over the orchard, Lake Champlain, and the Adirondack mountains in the distance.
Lincoln Peak Vineyard, Lincoln

The last (but certainly not least) stop on our wine tour is in beautiful Lincoln, Vermont. Tucked away on the west side of the Green Mountains, this quaint wine haven is a must-see. The cozy tasting room is the perfect place to indulge in a wine flight and local cheese board, with a knowledgeable sommelier ready to answer all your questions about growing and making wine in Vermont’s unique climate. Concerts are hosted throughout the fall, and feature a variety of great local artists.
No matter which beautiful VT wineries you visit, make sure you stay safe as you enjoy one of the best times of year in our beautiful Green Mountain State!
