Grand Isle stands out from other communities with its charm, rich farmland, and tranquil island life. Located in the Champlain Islands, sandwiched between North and South Hero, this Vermont haven is known for its famous state park, historic landmarks, and stunning views. There is a little something here for everyone.

It is located about 30 minutes from Burlington, about an hour and a half from Montreal, and less than an hour from Plattsburgh, NY.  Grand Isle offers you the best of both worlds; living here, you can experience rural, suburban life while having access to the amenities that larger towns and communities might offer.

Access to the outdoors is a big part of life in the town of Grand Isle. Imagine spending your days out on the water swimming, boating, fishing, and ice fishing! Back on land, there are many great walking, hiking, and biking trails to explore. An iconic feature in Grand Isle is their state park; 226 acres, ample campsites, and 4,150 feet of shoreline makes this a favorite vacation destination for many Vermonters. If that doesn’t excite you, Grand Isle is also home to one of Vermont’s oldest homes, The Hyde Log Cabin, originally built in 1783.

If there’s one thing that Vermonters do exceptionally well, it’s supporting local farmers and makers. A true testament to this is the weekly farmer’s market in town throughout the summer and winter. Talk about a fantastic opportunity to connect with the community and celebrate delicious and vibrant fruits and vegetables!

Many businesses on the island revolve around art, farming, gardening, and construction. Locally, a few options to explore are the Grand Isle Supervisory Union and the Champlain Island Farmer’s Market. Given that half of the island is shared with South Hero and close proximity to Burlington and Plattsburgh, there are many great options with a reasonable commute.

The school system in Grand Isle country focuses on fostering a community of curious and courageous individuals. The Grand Isle Supervisory Union (GISU) specializes in Kindergarten to 8th grade, allowing students to attend high school in a neighboring community of their choice. Supporting the five towns in the Champlain Islands, the GISU consists of Alburgh Community Education Center, Grand Isle Elementary School, Isle La Motte School, North Hero Elementary School, and Folsom Education Center in South Hero.

There truly is nothing like being surrounded by the lake and living in a place with such magnificent views. From being a part of a close-knit community and having easy access to the outdoors and larger towns nearby, you can have it all in Grand Isle.
