Isle La Motte is one of the most pristine and remote Champlain islands, with only one bridge connecting it to neighboring Alburgh. Residents here enjoy a laid-back lifestyle, secluded properties, and a welcoming community.

Isle La Motte is located in the northwestern corner of the state, in the Champlain Islands region. Alburgh is the only other town Isle La Motte directly touches, but North Hero and Grand Isle (and Chazy in New York) surround Isle La Motte, separated by Lake Champlain. The nearest small city is St. Albans, and Burlington is 1 hour south. Montreal is located just over an hour north across the Canadian Border. Albany is 3 hours to the south, and Boston is just over 4 hours.

Local residents love the tranquility Isle La Motte provides, and exploring this little island can be both exciting and relaxing. The Champlain Islands are known for their wines, and Isle La Motte features a premier winery, ZAFA Wines, located on the northeast shore of the island. Owner Krista Scruggs has been making unique wines since 2018, using local apples, maple syrup, and of course, grapes. Another excellent local winery is Isle La Motte Vineyard, which offers more traditional red and white wines. For those who love history and exploring, the Goodsell Ridge Fossil Preserve is perfect! This preserve is home to 480 million year old fossils, which were a part of the Chazy Fossil Reef when Vermont was under a shallow sea. This local treasure is not to be missed! Joining a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a quintessential part of living in Vermont, and locals from around the Champlain Islands join the Sandy Bottom Farm CSA for their great selection of fresh organic veggies during the summer. This is a great way to not only support local farmers, but also connect with other locals!

Elementary school students in Isle La Motte have the choice of attending either the North Hero School or Grand Isle School. Both schools are part of the Grand Isle Supervisory Union, which serves students in grades K-8 around the region. Vermont students have the ability to choose their high school. For more information about school choice, check out this resource. Many residents of Isle La Motte operate their own small farm, hotel, or campground. Larger employers in the area include bath and body shop Belcam, The Northwestern Medical Center, and Grand Isle Supervisory Union.
